Obituary for George A Welnetz

George A. Welnetz, 92, of Eagle River passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Milestone Senior Living in Eagle River.

George was born September 1, 1926, to John and Mary Welnetz in Milwaukee, WI.

He graduated from Boys Tech and Trade School, Milwaukee, WI in 1944. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1944.

George moved to Three Lakes/Eagle River area in 1946. He met and married Marion (Mickie) Luebbing in 1949.

George is survived by daughter Deborah Jensen (Gary Vold) of Conover, WI and sons Douglas (Karen Welnetz) of Duluth, MN and Curtis (Julianne) Welnetz of Conover, WI.

George is further survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie (Ronald) Feckett, Nicole (Ben) Zdroik, Benjamin Welnetz and Jordan Welnetz; and great-grandchildren Connor and Alexis Feckett.

George is also survived by brother-in-law William Anderson, special friend Virjean Soder, and extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jeanette Haden, wife Marion, son-in-law Roger Jensen and sister-in-law Lavergne Anderson.

In their 52 years of marriage Mickie and George traveled extensively graduating from tent, to pop-up to motor home. Some of their favorite travels included a summer in Alaska, many trips to the UP, Hawaii and a very special 50th Anniversary celebration with the family in the Virgin Islands. George loved taking beautiful stereo slide photographs and movies of his travels.

George retired in 1988 from Wisconsin Public Service after 42 years of service as lineman, serviceman and relief dispatcher. In retirement George helped out at Jensen Hardware and Appliance in Conover.

George was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Eagle River Masonic Lodge #248 for over 50 years. He was especially proud of being instrumental in building the current Masonic Temple in Eagle River. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 431—Three Lakes, and WPSC quarter century club. He was a member of the Tripoli Shriners.

A Masonic and Memorial Service will be held Friday August 2, at Noon at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, Eagle River. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, prior to the service. Immediately following the service, lunch and fellowship will be held at the Masonic Temple, 610 E. Division St, Eagle River, WI.
