Obituary for Kenneth "Ken" Wendt

Kenneth “Ken” Wendt, age 82, a resident of Watersmeet, MI passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Rennes Health & Rehab Center in Rhinelander, WI. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on in 1937. Through-out his life he lived in Milwaukee, WI; Schofield, WI; River Falls, WI and Sheboygan, WI then retiring to Watersmeet, MI.

Ken retired from Windway Capital Corporation / Vollrath Company in Sheboygan, WI, where he had worked for nearly 50 years. Ken was always active in the community in which he lived and volunteered for many organizations throughout his life, including during retirement.

Ken was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and Boy Scouts in River Falls. He was politically active and served as a schoolboard member for the Sheboygan Area School District Board of Education. He was also a member of the Sheboygan Downtown Rotary. In addition, he served on the board of directors for non-profit organizations including the Sheboygan Senior Center and was the Chairman of the Board for Partners for Community Development. He also did volunteer work for other organizations such as the Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation.

Ken was active in various ways in all of the Catholic parishes he belonged to throughout his life.

Ken was a board member of the Eagle River Performing Arts. He was also president of the Dinner Lake Association in Watersmeet. In addition, he was a founder and president of ISCCW (Invasive Species Control Coalition of Watersmeet, a.k.a. Watersmeet Lakeguards, an environmental group to fight invasive species). He was passionate about this cause.

Hunting, fishing, reading, watching westerns, telling stories to the children, “roughhousing” with the children, and enjoying a good meal and drink were just some of his zests for life. He also greatly loved traveling across the United States, and he said, “after I see everything there is to see in this country, then I’ll go somewhere else.”

Ken was surrounded by family in his final hours and found immense comfort in his Catholic faith. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Ken is survived by his wife: Patricia (Smith) Wendt of Watersmeet, MI; his daughters: Charlene (Aaron) Lammers of Plymouth, WI; Annette (Trent) Geimer of Two Rivers, WI; Paulette (Jeffrey) Wahl of New Brighton, MN; his stepchildren who he loved as his own: Racheale (Blair) Ward of Cambridge, WI and Gregory (Sandra) Lee of Lawrenceburg, TN; brother: Dale (Rod) Burke of Seattle, WA; sister: Clarice Zubke of Saukville, WI; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by two infant sons: Christopher and Michael; three brothers: Raymond, Ronald and Donald.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watersmeet, MI. Memorials can be made in Ken’s honor to:
