Obituary for Robert "Mac" McDonald

Robert “Bob/Mac” McDonald passed away peacefully on April 26, 2019 at the age of 74. He was born on October 28, 1944, in Rhinelander, WI, to Donald and Vivian (Karenke) McDonald. He spent all of his life in Eagle River, WI. He graduated from Eagle River High School in 1962. Mac served proudly in the United States Navy, where he specialized in Electronic, from 1963-1968, which included 3 years overseas. He married Gloria (Tomlanovich) on 3/12/1971. They had five children – Michelle (Darren) Rubo, Missy McDonald, Marci McDonald, Bobby McDonald, Mariann McDonald. He adored his four grandchildren – Mike, Mikala, Bria, and MJ.

He is also survived by his two brothers Chuck McDonald and Don McDonald, two nieces Miranda and Melanie and many special cousin he considered close family. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Bonnie McDonald and brother Richard (Dick) McDonald.

In his younger years, Mac enjoyed playing softball, golf and bowling. He was a youth hockey and baseball coach form many years. He retired from GTE/Verizon Communications after 42 years. He was active in the Eagle River Area Fire Department for 45 years and a member of the Department until his passing. He enjoyed his time as Town of Lincoln Board Supervisor, Joint Municipal Fire Commission Town of Lincoln Representative and involvement in the ERRA, serving on the Board of Directors for many years. Watching sports, especially hockey, was a favorite pastime, as well as watching and supporting his grandchild, in whatever activity they were involved in.

Mac will be remembered most for his infectious smile, kindness, sense of humor, strength and friendship to all. In his honor, enjoy life to the fullest, be kind to others and be grateful.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the “Save the Dome” Fund. The Dome was Mac’s home away from home for many years.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at “The Dome” on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 3:00PM. All are welcomed.
